Rushenyi County MP Hopeful Urges Journalists to Diversify Income Streams

Ntungamo, Uganda – Rushenyi County prospective Member of Parliament, Mr. Jonan Muhumuza, has urged journalists to explore alternative sources of income to supplement their monthly salaries.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining professional ethics and reputation, as the media is considered the fourth estate globally.

Muhumuza suggested that journalists could exploit their skills, form associations, and join organizations that advocate for press freedom to promote professionalism.

He also encouraged journalists to familiarize themselves with the fundamental principles of their profession, value them, and use them for self-development.

“I encourage journalists to exploit their skills, form associations, and join organizations that advocate for press freedom to promote professionalism. Additionally, familiarize yourselves with the fundamental principles of your profession, value them, and use them for self-development.” Said Jonan Muhumuza.

During the meeting with journalists, media veterans, and practitioners at Golden Gardens in Rubaare town council on Wednesday Muhumuza stressed the need for neutrality in reporting.

The aspiring Jonan Muhumuza advised journalists to avoid reporting defamatory information and to prioritize factual reporting.

The prospective MP’s remarks align with the principles outlined in the Society of Professional Journalists’ Code of Ethics, which emphasizes the importance of seeking truth, minimizing harm, acting independently, and being accountable to the public.
