Traffic Police Announce Alternative Routes After Fatal Gulu-Kamudini Highway Crash
Oyam, Uganda – A fatal accident involving two trailers has blocked the Gulu-Kamudini Highway, prompting the Uganda Traffic Police to announce alternative routes for motorists.
The accident occurred at Ngato Swamp in Oyam district when a trailer traveling toward Gulu developed mechanical issues, and another trailer rammed into it, killing one driver instantly and injuring the other.
The Traffic Police spokesperson, SP Michael Kananura, confirmed the incident and urged motorists to use alternative routes.
“To avoid delays, motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Gulu-bound motorists should divert via Minakulu town council and connect to Oyam-Lira road-Kamudini. Kampala-bound motorists should divert at Kamudini-Atapara-Oyam road to Minakulu-Gulu Road. Lira-bound motorists should connect to Aboke-Iceme Road in Oyam-Bobi-Gulu Road-Gulu,” said Michael Kananura.
Kananura advised motorists with heavily loaded trucks to divert from Kamudini-Aboke-Iceme-Bobi-Gulu Highway for Kampala-bound and from Bobi for Gulu-bound.
He urged motorists to exercise patience, discipline, and adhere to directives from officers on the ground, appreciating the cooperation of all road users.
