People giving wrong information to NIRA during the Mass Enrolment & Renewal exercise to be apprehended and charged.
KABALE: The Minister for Internal Affairs, Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, has cautioned the public against providing wrong data to the NIRA officials during the upcoming mass renewal exercise.
Gen. Kahinda”s warning was contained in his Massage read on Thursday by the former NIRA Executive Director Brig. Gen. Stephen Kwiringira, at the NIRA Mass Enrolment and Mass Renewal Stakeholders within Kigezi Sub Region a meeting held at Bunyonyi Safaris Resort in Kabale district.
Gen Kahinda said that people who make a false statement for the sake of acquiring a Ugandan National ID if found he/she will face the cancellation of their registration or be imprisoned and charged according to the law.
He added that the aim of the mass enrolment and renewal exercises is to help identify people with a purpose of national planning, mandated by the constitution of Uganda from the Registration of Persons Act 2015.
Representing the NIRA Executive Director Ms. Rosemary Kisembo, the Manager of Registration and Operations at NIRA Mr. Edwin Tukamuhebwa said that the engagement was to ensure that the districts stakeholders are well-informed about the upcoming registration drive for them to effectively mobilize their communities to participate.
He added that the involvement of the districts stakeholders is crucial in reaching out to the grassroots communities and ensuring that no one is left behind in this important national exercise.
The nationwide NIRA registration for mass issuance of IDs to new citizens as well as the renewal exercise start on June 1 and runs up to September 30, 2025
