Man beheads ex-girlfriend in Mukono over lost love

A six-day search for 25-year-old Jackline Nyawedde, who went missing on April 27, ended in tragedy after her headless body was Namawojjolo East, Mukono district.
According to police, Nyawedde’s ex-boyfriend, Abdu Muyagu, confessed to killing her in a suspected ritual murder. Muyagu lured Nyawedde under the pretence of reconciliation but had planned her murder as revenge for a failed relationship.
Detectives tracked her last mobile phone signal, which showed contact with Muyagu shortly before the phone was switched off. Muyagu was arrested alongside a traditional healer, James Bakabulindi, and another accomplice, Mubarak Kizito.
During interrogation, Muyagu immediately admitted to the murder.
“We killed her. I did it with the help of these people and others who are not here. I have her phone and her head in my house,” Muyagu reportedly told detectives.
Police later recovered Nyawedde’s mobile phone and a wrapped human head from Muyagu’s home. The suspects then led officers to a nearby garden where her headless torso was found.
The remains were taken to Mulago hospital for postmortem. Preliminary findings indicate the murder was a ritual sacrifice, allegedly motivated by jealousy after Nyawedde left Muyagu and later dated one of his friends.
Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed that 17 suspects have now been arrested in connection with the case and all face murder charges.
“The incident happened in Lugala village, Kasawo sub-county. Investigations are ongoing, and we’re treating this as a ritual murder case,” Onyango said.
