Mayuge woman killed by lightning, four children injured
A 30-year-old woman, Christine Awori, died after being struck by lightning in the early hours of Saturday morning at Waigala village, Bukatube sub-county, Mayuge district.
The incident occurred around 2:30 am during a heavy downpour. Awori sustained severe burns from the lightning strike and succumbed to her injuries shortly after.
Her four children, who were with her at the time, survived with minor injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a private clinic in Bukatube.
Residents described Awori as a devoted and hardworking mother who was the sole breadwinner for her family.
“She beat all odds to better the lives of her family members,” said Justin Odwori, a neighbour and family friend.
