UGX 35.2Bn Needed to Secure Vehicles for District Chairpersons and Mayors.

NATIONAL: The Ministry of Local Government is seeking Shs 35.2 Billion for the procurement of modest Vehicles to 176 Local Government LCV Chairpersons and Mayors across the Country.

The inquiry was made by Ben Kumumanya, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Local Government while appearing before Parliament’s Local Government Committee to show the Ministry’s 2025/26 National Budget Framework Paper.

The PS said that the vehicles are to ease their mobility and efficiency in monitoring Government programs, while an extra Shs 30 Billion is needed to track the Parish Development Model.

Last year, the President of Uganda Yoweri Museveni directed the Ministry of Local Government to procure vehicles for District Chairpersons and Mayors of Cities and Municipalities.

Earlier during the day the office of president led by the Minister for the Presidency Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda had notified the Parliament’s Committee on Presidential Affairs that they will need to help the Assistant RDCs with Vehicles.

It should be recalled that the Ministry responsible for the president’s affair announced the appointment of 357 Assistant Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) of whom each is subjected to 1 million monthly pay.
