Rukungiri, Uganda – Police in Rukungiri have launched an investigation into the gruesome murder of a 2-year-old girl, allegedly killed by her biological father.
The deceased minor has been identified as Rachel Owembabazi, who was allegedly murdered by her father, Musinguzi Willy, 37, at around 5:30 pm on Monday within Nyamayenje A Cell, Ndorero Ward, Southern Division, Rukungiri Municipality.
Sources indicate that Musinguzi Willy had separated from his wife, Namutebi Zainabu Elizabeth, in January 2024, leaving their two children, Ainomugisha Babra, 6, and Rachel Owembabazi, 2, in the care of their grandparents, Koshaba Mauda and Turyahabwe John.
On the day of the incident, Musinguzi Willy reportedly arrived at his parents’ home, where the children were staying, and took Rachel with him.
Moments later, he returned with a panga and allegedly cut the minor’s neck in a horrific act witnessed by the victim’s sister, Babra who alerted their grandparents, and in turn reported the incident to the police.
The Kigezi police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed the incident, stating that Musinguzi Willy was arrested by the area chairperson, Byomuhangi Medard, and handed over to the police.
