TMF Procures 1700 Trees for Planting Ahead of Kabale University’s 9th Graduation Ceremony
The Tumusiime Mutebire Foundation – TMF an organization established in honor of the Former Governor Bank of Uganda Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebire has procured 1700 trees for planting ahead of the Kabale University’s 9th graduation.
This was revealed on Wednesday, by Ms. Betty Edinah Nyakeisiki the chief executive officer for Tumusiime Mutebire foundation during a tree planting activity at Kabale University premises. The Kabale District based institution will hold its 9th graduation ceremony as a public university tomorrow October 25, 2024 at Kikungiri Campus.
Nyakeisiki explained that a total of 100 trees have been planted at Kabale University and the remaining 1600 will be freely given to graduates for planting in their homes after the graduation ceremony.
She said that tree planting was a contribution to efforts promoting a green environment in Uganda. She urged all people to join them and plant as many trees as they can as they conserve the environment.
Bishop Dr Frank Michael Tweheyo, the overseer of Christian fellowship church in Kabale District expressed gratitude to the TMF for the tree planting campaign and hailed them for not only focusing on environmental conservation, but also promoting food security by planting trees that yield edible fruits.
The Tumusiime-Mutebile Foundation (TMF) was founded in 2016 after the late Professor Emmanuel Mutebile was honored and awarded by Makerere University on 27th October 2015, with a Centre of Excellence for Private Sector Development and a Chair in Monetary Policy, Banking and Finance.
It should also be noted that Prof. Emmanuel Mutebire is one of the founders of the Kigezi Development Association which started Kabale University as a private institution in 2001. The University has since evolved into a public Institution and the face of higher education in the Kigezi sub-region, boasting a student enrollment of over 6000 as of 2024, with over 2000 graduating at the institution every year.
The upcoming graduation ceremony is the 2nd in this year and the 9th since Kabale University was taken over by Government as a public institution in 2015
