Suspects apprehended in Kabale transporting cattle without relevant documents.

KABALE: The territorial police in Kabale have arrested 18 suspects allegedly for transporting cattle in the night and without relevant documents something against the guidelines.

The suspects now in custody have been identified as Tumuhimbise Francis, Mwetise Francis, Tugumisirize Edson, Ekyarakole Odua, Orimwikiriza Esau, Musinguzi Innocent, Byomuhwezi John, Tugume Robert, and Katungi Moses.

Others include; Ankankwasa Leo, Plan Alfa, Ngabirano innocent, Maniraguha Patrick, Tukwantise Gordon, Ayambe Abias, Tumwebaze Alex, Turyahabwe James and Twahibwa Lauben. 

The Kigezi Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate told this reporter that at around 3:00am on Tuesday, at Nyakijumba cell, southern division in Kabale district, on intelligence tipoff, 18 suspects were arrested with 38 heads of cattle when they were moving without proper documentations and clearance for movement. 

Maate said that the suspects were moving using motor vehicles UAU 737N Canter, UBA 659 Isuzu Elf, UBD 905Q Canter and UBB 613U Diana each carrying 11, 05, 10 and 12 cows respectively. 

Upon their interception, police interviewed and asked them to produce proper movement documents for the animals they were transporting only to find out that some had no proper documents and were not complying to instructions given by Dr. Anyongire Angela the District veterinary officer Kabale District of moving at night. 

Police officers headed by OC station ASP Akanyijuka Andrew impounded the animals, took them to the Police station and later charged them for faulting procedures. 

The 38 herds of cattle were exhibited, photographed, impounded and handed over to the District veterinary officer who has habited them at Kamuganguzi Government farm.

Among them, one animal was found to be from Rwanda and had a tag of Rwanda which they couldn’t fully account for how it was obtained and the trucks were moving at night contrary to the stipulated time of 6:00 am-6:00 PM. Police Spokesperson further said that the inquiries into the matter are under way and upon completion, the suspects will be arraigned before courts of law to answer charges so as the matter is also registered at Kabale Central Police Station on CRB 624/2024.
