Suspected Thief Lynched, Body Mutilated by Angry Crowd.

KANUNGU: A mob in Kanungu District have lynched a 35-year-old man for allegedly robbed UGX 300,000 belonging to a fellow resident.

The Deceased identified as one Joseph according to eyewitnesses on Tuesday January 21, 2025 at around 2:00 pm trespassed and gained access into the home of one Bajumwa Beatrice and made off with the cash.

An alarm was raised hence attracting nearby people who included army officers on guard duties who apprehended the suspect and handed over to the Chairperson LC1 of Kihembe Central Mr. Kazoba Frank.

However, before the police could intervene, the mob overpowered the area Chairperson and forcefully grabbed the suspect, ultimately killing him and later mutilated his body into pieces.

The Kigezi Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed to this reporter that the scene was visited by the officers, processed and documented and conveyed the body to Kanungu Katate Health Centre IV for the postmortem examination.

Maate added that some relevant statements were obtained from key witnesses at the crime scene and no suspect was arrested yet.

The Police mouth piece further said that inquiries into the matter are ongoing with the view of identifying the suspects and bringing them to book.
