MOMBASA. The Speaker of parliament Rt. Hon Anita Annet Among has expressed Uganda’s commitment to the integration process and the vision for the East African Community (EAC) on behalf of the country’s leadership.

Speaker Among said this on Saturday in an engagement with Kenya’s President His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto ahead of the official opening of the East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games in Mombasa.

Rt. Hon Anita Annet Among said that Sports is partly expediting the integration process as it provides valuable opportunity for MPs to interact, share ideas, and brainstorm ways to eliminate unnecessary barriers affecting people in the Community.

President Ruto said that East African Community is pursuing initiatives to enhance people-to-people interaction of citizens from member States, including sport, music and dance, and cultural activities.

He added that events are the catalysts for a more inclusive and competitive regional bloc and further reaffirm the EAC’s position as Africa’s most progressive economic community, leading the continent’s integration agenda.

The Uganda’s Speaker, together with the Kenya’s President and the accompanying hosts and guests opened the 14th East African Community Inter-Parliamentary activities and together participated in the 100-meter curtain-raiser race.
