KAMPALA: Muslims have been cleared on acquiring Parish Development Model (PDM) Funds as they don’t involve both receiving and paying interests, an act that is forbidden in the Islamic faith.

This was sounded by the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Mubaje, while speaking after Eid al-Fitr prayers Yesterday Wednesday at the Gaddafi Mosque in Old Kampala.

Sheikh Mubaje said the president of the republic of Uganda, guided them that the money is not in the form of a loan but rather a donation, which does not require paying interest.

The Mufti of Uganda further rallied Muslims in the country to take part in using the PDM Funds as it doesn’t violate the principles of Islam.

The Parish Development Model (PDM) is a government-led initiative aimed at transforming subsistence households into the money economy and lifting 17.5 million Ugandans in 3.5 million households out of poverty.

The initiative was launched in 2022 by the President of Uganda Yoweri Museveni as a strategy to improve service delivery and alleviate poverty at the grassroots level.
