Rukiga Politics Take a Dramatic Turn as New Candidates Emerge, Setting Stage for Thrilling Contest
RUKIGA: Politics in Rukiga district have taken a dramatic turn as two new candidates have thrown their hats into the ring.
The current LC V Vice Chairperson, Samuel Niwandinda, has announced his intention to contest for the Rukiga Chairmanship position in the 2026 general election.
Meanwhile, former Rukiga Woman MP aspirant, Hon Aturinda Elizabeth, has also announced her candidacy for the Woman MP seat in the same election.
Niwandinda’s decision to run against his boss, District Chairperson Mbabazi Robert Kakwereere, is reportedly due to the latter’s failure to provide regular public accountability of funds received from the central government and local revenue collection.
Niwandinda, who serves as the District Councilor representing Rwamucuucu Sub-County, expressed his disappointment with Kakwereere’s leadership, citing several unheeded advisories.
The developments sets the stage for a thrilling contest in the 2026 elections, with Niwandinda and Aturinda Elizabeth expected to inject fresh ideas and perspectives into the district’s politics.
As the campaign season heats up, residents of Rukiga District can expect a lively debate on the issues that matter most to them.
