Rubirizi Youth and Women Urged to Leverage KYAPS SACCO for Economic Empowerment

Rubirizi, Uganda – Youth and Women in Rubirizi District have been called upon to join a money-serving environment within Kyamuhunga Peoples SACCO (KYAPS) to transform their families’ economic fortunes.
This call was made by Niwabine Rodgers, the SACCO’s Sales and Marketing Manager, during the regional Pre-AGM meeting held at Katerera Playground in Rubirizi District for the Financial Year 2025-2026.
At the meeting, Rodgers emphasized that KYAPS has empowered youth and women through bodaboda loans and normal loans, reducing unemployment and crime rates.

The Vice Chairperson of the KYAPS Board, Mrs. Judith Mugisha, noted that the SACCO has helped families generate income, educate their children, and fight poverty.
“KYAPS has helped families generate income, educate their children, and fight against poverty. We are thankful for the love and development we’ve seen in Rubirizi, and we’re committed to continuing our work in the area.” Said Judith Mugisha.
KYAPS has achieved impressive growth, with 52,666 members, a share capital of UGX 9.757 billion, total savings of UGX 13.777 billion, and a loan portfolio of UGX 39.399 billion. The SACCO’s net profit has increased to UGX 1.981 billion, promoting financial inclusion.
Mr. Kunkunda Alfred, KYAPS Branch Manager for Katerera, highlighted the SACCO’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, including supporting education and rewarding customers. He encouraged members to increase savings and shares to boost liquidity and reduce external borrowing.
The Assistant Commercial Officer of Rubirizi District, Janet Tushabe, appreciated the SACCO for supporting the government’s efforts to alleviate poverty.
She cautioned against multiple borrowing and loan defaulting, emphasizing the need for increased savings and share capital mobilization to minimize liquidity challenges.
