Road Carnage in Kisoro; One Dead, 12 Injured
Kisoro, Uganda – A devastating single fatal road accident in Kisoro district over the weekend claimed a life, leaving 12 other juvenile passengers fighting for their lives with injuries.
The deceased has been identified as Irakoze Bright, 12, son of Habanabakiza Alex, a resident of Mupaka village, Chahafi town council, who died in an accident that occurred at approximately 4:20 pm on February 8, 2025.
The injured victims, including Bayizere Mark, 9, (the deceased’s brother), and several others, were rushed to Chahafi Health Center IV and Mutolere Hospital for medical treatment.
According to Kigezi Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, the accident involved a Mitsubishi Fuso (UBN328X) traveling from Gahenerezo village to Mupaka village in Chahafi town council, loaded with 60 bags of beans.
On its return journey, the vehicle failed to climb a hill near Lake Chahafi, moved backwards, and overturned, killing the deceased and injuring the juvenile passengers.
A team of officers led by ASP Kushaba Micheal, DTO Kisoro, visited the accident scene and conducted a postmortem examination on the deceased at Chahafi Health Center IV.
The motor vehicle, suspected to be in poor mechanical condition hanse causing the accident, was towed to Kisoro CPS pending IOV inspection.
Elly Maate confirmed that manhunt for the driver, who is currently on the run, has been launched, and inquiries are ongoing.
