Remains of a dead casual laborer discovered in a bushy Church Farm after days of search.

RUKUNGIRI: Police in Rukungiri are searching for unknown suspects who killed a casual laborer in Ruhinda sub-county, Rukungiri district.

The deceased, identified as Andrew Twijukye, 32, was a resident of Kakoma cell, Burombe parish, Ruhinda sub-county, Rukungiri district.

According to a police statement, it is alleged that on 24th May 2024, Twijukye and Akampulira Godwin, alias God, were guarding Road construction materials at Kakoma trading center and a day after were both paid twenty thousand shillings (20,000 UGX).

The two went to a bar in a round Kakoma trading center, where they drank until 5:00 pm, when Akampulira Godwin left, leaving Twijukye drinking and never returned home.

On Friday 31th May 2024, at around 8:00 AM, Komwaro Rosette, Twijukye’s mother, informed Nyangira David, Twijukye’s paternal uncle, who reported to Ruhinda police station and was advised to put announcements on Radios as a search continues.

The Kigezi Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed the incident and said that remains of Andrew Twijukye were discovered by the uncle at around 5:00 pm on 31 May 2024 in the bushy farm of Rwamagaya Catholic Church and the Police was notified.

Maate added that the officers visited the crime scene, documented it, and the body was toured to the Rwakabengo HC III mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Maate requested that any person with information that could lead the arrest of the perpetrators to volunteer to the authorities so that they can be apprehended and charged accordingly.

A Statement on suspected Murder was registered at Rukungiri Central Police Station on CRB: 670/2024 as the investigations are ongoing.
