KAMPALA -UGANDA: The Uganda Prisons Service has kicked off its Christmas meat slaughtering exercise at Luzira Prisons Complex, with plans to cover all 266 prison stations across Uganda.

According to Mr. Frank Baine, Senior Commissioner of Prisons and Service Spokesperson, the Uganda Prisons Service takes pride in providing a humane and festive atmosphere for its inmates.

“We want to make sure that our inmates and staff have a Christmas to remember, just like everyone else,” said Frank Baine.

Frank Baine added that the Prisons Service is aimed at providing a festive meal for over 78,000 inmates and 14,000 staff members.

He further said that the Prisons Service have arranged to slaughter around 687 adult cattle, which are to be distributed to all prison stations.

To ensure the quality and safety of the meat, Dr. Generous Betunga, Superintendent of Prisons (Veterinary Surgeon) emphasized that thorough inspections of the organs and carcasses are conducted to ensure that the meat is fit for human consumption.
