Poor Road connectivity and lack of electricity in Rukiga hinder the District’s Development.
RUKIGA: Locals and Leaders from Rukiga district have called upon the government’s intervention on the state of roads and power outages in the area.
They sounded this call on Saturday during the belated Women’s day celebration at Nyakihanga playground in Kashekye Parish, Kamwezi Sub County in Rukiga district.
During the celebrations, celebrated under the theme, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress” the LC III Chairman Kamwezi Sub County Hon. Teddyson Niwagaba raised an alarm over the state of roads in the area.
The Chairman said that in the area of Kashekye parish with a large population has poor road network connectivity and has health facilities with no electricity, things that have rendered the area unreachable part of the district.
The Chairperson of the Rukiga District Women’s council Hon Joselyn Arineitwe commended the government for empowering women in the district through many programs such as UWEP, Emyooga, PDM among others.
She however warned women against undermining their husbands, calling upon them to use the empowerment programs to develop their families.
The Rukiga District LC V Chairperson Hon. Mbabazi Robert Kakwerere said that the District being mountainous, needs special attention.
He added that Rukiga only has Bukinda sub county remaining without a Health Center III unit yet it’s the policy of the government to have a Health Center III in every Sub County.
In attendance was the District Legislators; Hon. Roland Bish Ndyomugyenyi Hon. Kamusiime Caroline Muhwezi, and other dignitaries including; Hon. Min Jacob Marksons Oboth –Oboth as the chief Guest, Hon. Min. Aisha Sekindi, and Hon. Min. David Muhoozi among others.
