NUP Party Leaders issued with Regulation to follow during the countrywide mobilization activities.
KAMPALA-UGANDA: The National Unity Platform Party (NUP) Members have engaged the Uganda Police Force in a harmonization meeting aimed at ensuring successful mobilization activities for the Party.
The meeting was held on Monday 27th May 2024 at Police Headquarters Naguru in response to a letter the NUP Party wrote on 23rd May 2024, protesting against the alleged brutality meted out on them last week on Wednesday by the Police and Military.
In the agreement document signed by the Deputy Police spokesperson ACP Nabakka S. Claire, the NUP Leadership should, in all their notifications, write officially to the IGP early enough to enable the UPF management reply in time and copy their letters to the Territorial Commanders.
It was agreed that the District Security Committee carry out an assessment of security at the venue, environs, and the route that the NUP members intend to use before the meetings from where the committee will work together with the Liaison Officer of NUP to agree on an appropriate venue where Police can effectively provide security.
Among other recommendations was that the NUP Leadership provide a liaison officer whose role will be to coordinate with Police Headquarters and Unit Commanders regarding preparations for holding their activities and following up on security concerns from the party.
The meeting urged NUP Leadership to prevail over their members who wear military insignia, as these acts contravene the law as for the Persons found culpable shall be dealt with individually.
Speaking to our reporter after the meeting the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi said that the police will always provide guidance if there happens to be any particular concern.
“We have agreed that if the police have any kind of guidance or whatever the case might be, they can get back to us. But the idea of banning our activities, that one has no place in the law, so they have said that if there’s any particular concern or if there’s a particular route they want us to use they are going to get back to us” said Joel Senyonyi.
The Busiro County East Legislator Hon. Medard Lubega Sseggona said that they are committed to working with police in carrying out their Party activities saying that the Police can only regulate and facilitate but not to frustrate.
“They have received our letters officially so we are able to work together and we are happy to work with them to do what we are meant to do. One thing we are not going to accept is to do politics from the bush so in the regulations, they can only regulate and facilitate and not to frustrate” said Medard Lubega Sseggona.
The National Unity Platform Party (NUP) is today 28th May 2024 slated to hold a mobilization rally in Mukono municipality hopes being a successful one following an engagement meeting with the police.
