KAMPALA – UGANDA: Uganda’s National Identification and Registration Authority(NIRA) received its second batch of 1,700 national ID registration kits, in addition to the 1,000 kits delivered last week.

In preparation of the National Identity Card renewal exercises the government is slated to register over 17.2 million Ugandan, who are unregistered, while also renewing the cards of 15 million people, whose IDs have expired.

Last year, the mass enrollment and renewal of the national identification cards exercise which was supposed to kick start on the 1st of June 2024 but was never executed as planned.

National Identification and Registration Authority Executive Director, Rosemary Kisembo, attributed the postponement to what to unforeseen delays in the procurement process.

Meanwhile the Registration body is Undergoing the hands on training to technical staff aimed at enhancing staff with competence skills, useful in citizenship identification, as well as accurately registering them for the purpose of national ID card issuance.

The training underscores our preparation for the exercise that’s expected to be rolled out at parish level, country wide.
