Kira Municipality Mp Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has echoed the need for Parliament to check on the health of President Museveni following his failure to attend key international meetings that he has been attending in the past.

The Legislator’s concern follows the revelation by Speaker Annet Anita Among that Uganda is being represented by Vice President, Jessica Alupo at the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government – CHOGM conference in Samoa, prompting Ssemujju to cite a number of meetings that the President hasn’t attended and rather chose to send representatives.

“We had the United Nations General Assembly recently, and the President was represented by the Vice President, we had a meeting in China, and again, our President was represented, and you have just said even for Commonwealth. I need to ask, this Parliament may not have taken it seriously, the need to check on the health of our President because of his age. All these important meetings that he has been attending traditionally, he now can’t attend, and you are saying it is in order?” noted Ssemujju amidst heckling from some MPs.

Meanwhile, Speaker Among had earlier refuted reports that she has been barred from entering Samoa to represent Uganda at the ongoing Commonwealth Heads of Government (CHOGM), saying the meeting at the Pacific Island is for Heads of States, not small people like her.

She said that she was planning to fly out to India, to attend the Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of Commonwealth Parliaments (CSCOP), to which she is the current Chairperson.
