BUHWEJU: The Buhweju County legislator, Hon. Mwijukye Francis was rescued with injuries by police and rushed for medical attention after he was attacked by a group of people armed with sticks on his way to visiting a land involved in conflicts.
During the Sunday Service yesterday, at Rwanyamabare Catholic Church in Nyakishana Sub County, Buhweju District a group of worshipers, also Members of Rwanyamabare farmers association told the legislator that their Church is at risk of removal from its site by one Kamugisha Frank a neighbor who claims the ownership of the land.
Hon. Mwijukye Francis with a group of people attempted to visit part of the land which was fenced by Kamugisha Frank, where they met a group of people armed with sticks, a confrontation henceforth and a fight ensued.
The Greater Bushenyi Regional Police spokesperson SSP Marcial Tumusiime Confirmed the incident saying that the legislator was beaten, sustained an injury on the head and was rescued by the officers, taken to Nsiika Health Center IV for Medical attention.
Marcial added that the officers obtained statements from some witnesses and a case of assault was registered at Buhweju Police Station on CRB 184/2024 as inquiries to Identify and arrest the suspects still at hand.
