Maziba Sub county Remains dark despite having own Mini hydro power Plant.

KABALE:  Locals in Maziba Sub county Kabale district have raised a red flag over lack of Electricity in their areas despite having Maziba mini hydro station, with an installed capacity of 1megawatt hydro power.

This was reached on Tuesday while the residents from the Parishes of Birambo and Nyanja all in Maziba Sub County were engaging the Kabale district woman MP Hon Atwakiire Catherine Ndamira at Omukagana Primary School playground.

Hon Atwakiire Catherine Ndamira who had gone to deliver pigs to residents, pledged to continue lobbying from the government until the entire Kabale District gets enough Electricity.

The Legislator added that she resorted to a piggery project in the district to prepare the locals to have money for Water and Electricity bills after getting fully connected.

Kapeere Justus the LC II Chairperson of Birambo Parish said that the parishes of Birambo, Kavu and Kagweru have never got Electricity power connections despite them neighboring Maziba mini hydro power station.

He added that the locals are incurring a lot of costs to transport metallic doors from Kabale town which could have been welded from their area and cited incidents where even the school going children fail at National final Exams due to power shortage in the area.

Maziba mini hydro power station is situated on the Kiruruma River, which flows from Rwanda, into Uganda and was commissioned in 1963.
