Leaders in Kanungu District have Re-Sounded a need of Expansion and Tarmacking of Kanungu-Rukungiri road
KANUNGU: Leaders in Kanungu District have petitioned the government over the expansion and tarmacking of Kanungu Rukungiri road which is a vital route for the district.
During the belated National Resistance Movement (NRM) Liberation Day celebrations In Kanungu District on 18the April 2024 at the Bishop Comboni College playground the leaders explained how the Road has remained impassable being a Route that would easily link people to market centers.
Leaders emphasized that there have been many unfulfilled promises about the road network from Kanungu Town to Kambuga via Enengo, linking to Rukungiri and inadequate electricity supply within the district.
Responding to the concerns raised by local leaders, the Minister of Information, Communications Technology and National Guidance and also an MP Kinkizi East Constituency gave an assurance that the issues would be addressed, with plans to engage the President for resolution.
Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, also contributed to education initiatives by donating textbooks to secondary schools in Kinkizi East, aiming to elevate educational standards and prepare students for the modern world.
Featuring as the Chief Guest, Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi, one of the 27 bush war fighters, also pledged his commitment to advocate for the improved infrastructure development including Roads, Electricity, Education, Health, among others.
Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi who doubles as the Security Minister and MP for Rujumbura constituency, reminded party members of the core principles that drove the liberation struggle in the 1980s, emphasizing the importance of upholding these values for the nation’s well-being.
In presence was the Chairperson LC V Kanungu District Hon. Eng. Sam Kajojo, whose speech highlighted the potential boost in tourism that would accompany the tarmacking of the Enengo road, underscoring the broader economic benefits of infrastructure development.
Kanungu District Chairperson Eng. Arinaitwe Sam commended the bravery of the liberation fighters, acknowledging the sacrifices made for the nation’s freedom.
The Kanungu Woman MP Hon. Patience Kinshaba Nkunda celebrated the strides made in women’s empowerment, noting the increased representation of women in leadership roles across the country.
The Function was also attended by the local council leaders, Technical team headed by Chief Administrative Officer Mr. Awuye Abdallah, the Resident District Commissioner Mr. Ambrose Mwesigye among others.
