Kigezi High School imposes a total ban on single-use polythene bags/KAVERA in the premises.
KABALE: In a way of preserving the environment in the Kigezi sub region, Kigezi High school in Kabale district has banned the entering of polythene bags in the school premises.
Addressing Journalists in his office, the Head Teacher Kigezi High School Kabale Mr. Abraham Akampurira said that they are protecting the environment by banning polythene bags at school premises.
He added that they have registered a better school Environment than before using the established Student Clubs at the school to do community sensitization about the dangers in polythene bags
He added that the shops around the school have also dropped the sale of polythene bags because of the ban at school
The Patrons of the Environmental club at Kigezi High school; Mrs. Shallon Tumwijukye and Mr. George Turyasima and said that the ban has affected the school positively.
Kigezi High school Environmental Club Members led by Kukundakwe Mark, Ariho Victorious Suzan and Ayijuka Suzan said that they have been incurring a lot of costs on polythene bags which are not reusable and also harmful to the environment.
They added that students have embraced the move in all corners of the school and everyone is using paper bags as one way of preserving the environment.
They called upon fellows to embrace the move for the benefit of their lives and community.
