Kanyamateke Bridge Construction delayed by the devastating Heavy rains

KISORO: The upgrade and the construction progress of Kanyamateke Bridge in Busanza sub county kisoro district was delayed due to the Heavy rainfall and materials.

According to the site engineer Mr. Moses Turyatunga they faced a challenge of heavy rainfall and delay of materials especially in the months of April and May, 2024.

Turyatunga said that water was diverted from its origin to ease the work saying that 70% of workers are residents of Busanza Sub County who are also benefiting from the construction.

He further said that at the middle of the Month of August this year People will start using the bridge because they are waiting for materials to start casting of concrete early next week.

“We had challenges of heavy rains that sabotaged our progress in constructing these bridges and also the Materials that come from very far away. But we are hoping to receive materials as soon as possible.” Said Moses Turyatunga.

The Kisoro District LC V Chairperson Hon. Abel Bizimana told the media that in the last few days inspected the works being done by Gases Uganda limited at Kanyamateke Bridge and found the Work going on well.

Hon. Bizimana urged the contractors to double their efforts and ensure that the works are done on time to remove the blockage of residents failing to transport their goods.

The bridge was contracted to Gases Uganda limited at a tune of 2.093 billion shillings slated to help residents in transporting their goods to the markets of Busanza and Kisoro town.
