Kabale police apprehend other three suspects over street light solar panel theft.

KABALE: The territorial police in Kabale have arrested three suspects allegedly for several cases, related to damaging the security lights and solar panels within Kabale municipality.

The suspects in custody has been identified as Rugasa Abel Kahigi 18 a casual laborer a resident of Kigongi “A” cell central division and Ensinikweri Martin 21 Alias Muriro,  a boda boda rider a resident of Kirigime cell Southern division.

The third suspect was also identified as Tayebwa Derrick and were both from Kabale district who were arrested in an intensified operation on Monday from their hideout adding on the five who were arrested recently and are already in Ndorwa prison.

It’s alleged that, between the month of July and September 2024 at the areas of Makanga cell, Rwakaraba cell, Rushoroza and Nyabikoni, in the night hours, in around Kabale Municipality / district, the suspects and those still at large conspired and maliciously damaged 120 street lights and their batteries valued at 225,750,000/=

The suspects have been vadrizing the said property of government of Uganda, specifically for Kabale Municipality on several occasions and after go and sell the items in Rubanda district.

The Kigezi Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed to this reporter that the problem has been on in Kabale and several cases since been registered at Kabale police station with the case file already forwarded to the resident state attorney for perusal and legal advice. 

Maate added that the scenes of crime have been visited led by the police, municipal officials and local leaders with the three suspects now feeding under the police custody and efforts to find and arrest others still ongoing.

“This problem has been on in Kabale Municipality and several cases have since been registered at Kabale police station and their case file has been forwarded to the resident state attorney for legal actions. The three suspects are under our control and efforts to find and arrest others are still ongoing, until they are totally eliminated.” said Elly Maate.

The Kigezi Police spokesperson further said that the cases have been registered at Kabale Central Police Station under CRB 674/2024 for proper management.
