Kabale PDM SACCO Money Extortion Scandal, 2 Arrested other 2 on Run
KABALE: The office of the Kabale Resident District Commissioner, together with the police have ordered the arrest of two members of the Nyombe Parish Development Model SACCO allegedly for extorting funds from beneficiaries.
The two have been identified as Kobusigye Catherine the treasurer, and Bruce Ahimbisibwe the secretary both who upon arrest admitted to have been taking bribes from beneficiaries.
Meanwhile the Authorities have also launched a man hunt of two other suspects including the Nyombe Parish Chief one Wiklif and the SACCO’s Chairperson Mr. Mugabe Elius who both went into hiding after the launch of the operation.
The Kabale District Police Commander SP Bakaleke Joseph confirmed to this reporter that the arrests followed a community engagement at Nyombe Church of Uganda, where over 70 beneficiaries testified to having been bribed.
The Kabale District D/RDC Andrew Ronald Bakaki said that an interaction meeting with PDM beneficiaries revealed a conspiracy between the Parish chief and the Nyombe PDM SACCO Chairperson to extort money from beneficiaries.
Bakaki emphasized that the Parish Development Model is a free Government program aimed at increasing Household incomes and improving the quality of life of Ugandans with those involved in extortion must return the funds to the rightful owners.
Furthermore, Bakaki discovered that the Parish Chief had embezzled Nyombe PDC facilitation funds, leaving PDC members with little to no payment for their work.
The affected PDC members include Katurebe Cilus (LC2 Nyombe Parish) – UGX 80,000, Twinomujuni David – UGX 0 (received nothing), Kwesiga Erasmus – UGX 20,000, Ayebare Barhum – UGX 80,000, Orishaba Anna – UGX 20,000, Tumuhekyi Olivia – UGX 20,000.
