Hon. Min. Milly Babalanda has encouraged Journalists to join a campaign against environmental degradation.
KABALE: The Minister of Presidency Hon. Milly Babalanda has Charged the media Practitioners to join a campaign against acts of environmental degradation in Uganda.
The Minister was speaking as the Guest of Honor during the 2024, World Press Freedom Day celebrations on Friday in Kabale District, a faction held at the Kabale Municipal stadium.
Hon. Milly Babalanda said that the people mostly from South Western Uganda were misled by the colonial and subsequent governments, allowing them to use 60 percent of the wetlands in the area for farming activities.
She emphasized a need of mobilizing the communities to embrace the restoration of wetlands which works as the flooding systems in case of heavy rains.
The Minister of Information, Communications Technology and National Guidance Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi urged the security enforcers to always respect the rights of Journalists in their practice of their profession.
Dr. Chris Baryomunsi added that the Journalists are free to do their job anywhere without fear of harassment or violence under the Leadership of the current government of National Resistance Movement (NRM).
At the faction, about 11 million was fundraised in cash and over 6 million as pledges, plus 10 computers in drive of establishing a Media hub within Kigezi Sub Region.
In attendance were the two Aspiring woman MPs for Kabale District Hon Immaculate Kagwa Nyemera and Hon. Inid Origumisiriza, RDC Kabale Godfrey Nyakahuma, the D/RDCs; Kamusime Zadoch (Rukiga), Ronald Bakaki (Kabale), Sam Evidence Orikunda Twikirize (Sheema) and Sheik Kasim Kamusiim (D/RCC Nakawa Division Kampala).
