Kampala, Uganda – The Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced an extension of the National ID mass renewal exercise by one year for all expired IDs.

According to the State Minister for Internal Affairs, Gen David Muhoozi, the extension is necessary to incorporate security updates and address emerging challenges that have arisen during the renewal process.

The move is expected to give relief to millions of Ugandans whose National IDs have expired, allowing them more time to renew their documents.

Gen David Muhoozi assured the public that the extension will not compromise the integrity of the National ID system, but rather enhance its security features to prevent fraud and other malpractices.

The new deadline for the National ID mass renewal exercise will be communicated in due course.

In the meantime, the Ministry has urged all eligible citizens to take advantage of the extension and renew their National IDs to avoid any disruptions in accessing essential services.
