Four Suspects remanded allegedly for conspiring to fraudulently obtain certificates of a land title in Gomba District.
MPIGI: Mpigi Chief Magistrate Court has remanded 4 suspects on various charges ranging from Fraudulent Procurement of a Certificate of Title, Giving False Information to Public Officials among others in a bid to grab prime land in Gomba District.
The accused individuals have been identified as Kiweewa Burton Mugagga, Mubiru Joseph alias Yozefu, Kifampa John, Mayanja John Robert and others still at large who allegedly conspired to fraudulently obtain certificates of title for the land.
The four were arrested by the State House Anti Corruption Unit together with the Criminal Investigations Directorate-UPF and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The Magistrate’s Court heard that between June 2022 and August 2023, the suspects falsely presented Mubiru Joseph alias Yozefu an 80-year-old peasant, as the legitimate heir to the estate of the late Paul Kibi, deceiving public officials and authorities at the Ministry Zonal Offices in Mpigi.
Sources have it that the group also allegedly conspired to mislead the Mpigi High Court by providing false testimony to secure letters of administration for the estate of the late Paul Kibi.
It’s also said that Mr. Kiweewa also hired goons to terrorize the occupants of the land, one of whom was famous gang leader Sobbi who got killed on the same land last year. The suspects were remanded till 1st October, 2024 and criminal summons issued for other suspects still at large.
