Kabale, Uganda – Police in Kabale district are appealing to anyone missing a relative to visit the Kabale Referral Hospital mortuary to identify two dead bodies involved in a fatal road accident along the Kabale-Mbarara road at around 12:30 AM on Sunday.
According to ASP Elly Maate, Kigezi police spokesperson, the two unidentified individuals died on the spot after their motorcycle, UGH 748T, was hit by a Scania truck, UAJ 353Y, driven by an unknown driver who is currently on the run.
The accident occurred when the truck driver, traveling from Mbarara to Kabale, lost control near Harvest Petrol Station at Nyakijumba and collided with the motorcycle rider, who was traveling in the opposite direction. Both the rider and passenger died instantly.
Maate confirmed that CPL Mugabi and his team visited the scene, and preliminary investigations suggest that reckless driving by the truck driver may have caused the accident.
The bodies of the victims were taken to Kabale Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem, and the motorcycle was towed to Kabale CPS yard. The truck remains at the scene, awaiting offloading.
“We learned of the accident that claimed two lives at Nyakijumba near Harvest Petrol Station along the Kabale-Mbarara road last night. The preliminary suspected cause of the accident is reckless driving by the truck driver. We appeal to anyone missing a dear one to visit Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary to identify the deceased and make arrangements for a decent burial,” said Elly Maate.
The incident is under investigation, and more details will be provided as they become available.
