Double Tragedy; Two Die in Head-On Collision in Rukungiri District

RUKUNGIRI: A devastating road accident that occurred on Saturday in Kiborogota Cell, Kebisoni Town Council, along the Rukungiri-Ntungamo Road in Rukungiri District, resulting in the deaths of two people.
The victims have been identified as Ngabirano Onesmus, 24, a boda-boda rider from Karuhembe cell, and Muhirwe Derrick, 28, a resident of Muhanga cell, both from Kebisoni Town Council in Rukungiri District.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident involved a Fuso Fighter truck (UBR 066L) driven by an unknown driver, who fled the scene, and a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle (UGD 451R) ridden by the deceased Onesmus.
The truck, traveling from Kebisoni to Rukungiri town, collided head-on with the motorcycle, carrying two people including Onesmus who died instantly and Muhirwe the passenger who was rushed to Nyakibale hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
ASP Elly Maate, Kigezi Police Spokesperson, confirmed that police officers visited the scene, examined and documented the area, and recorded statements from relevant individuals.
Maate added that both vehicles are parked at Rukungiri Central Police Station pending inspection, and the bodies of the deceased were taken to Rwakabengo the health centre Mortuary for the postmortem examination.
He confirmed that the efforts are underway to apprehend the driver of the Fuso Fighter, who remains at large with the Inquiries into the accident also ongoing.
