CHRISTMAS 2024. DSW Donates Food & Hygiene Items to Children with Disabilities.
Kabale District Based NGO Disability Sign World (DSW) has today donated an assortment of Food and Hygiene items to Children with Disabilities in Greater Kabale District.
A total of 50 Families of Children Living with Disabilities received food and hygiene packages including rice, ground nuts, maize flour, soap and body jelly.
The event was held at Holy Family Preparatory School’s Premises in Kigongi, Central Division, Kabale Municipality, where a number of parents and guardians gathered with their disabled children to receive the Christmas and end of year messages from Disability Sign World.
The DSW Executive Director Ms. Sarah Atwebembere said that they had planned donating to about 100 families, but due to insufficient funds, they selected 50 families that were most vulnerable.
According to Ms. Atwebembere, the beneficiaries who live with disabilities such as albinism, blindness, cerebral pulse, club feet, among others, are all from Greater Kabale District that covers Kabale, Rukiga, and Rubanda District in South Western Uganda.
She noted that the Organization which was founded in 2019 seeks to uplift the standards of living among children with disabilities, by giving them financial support in areas of food & feeding, hygiene, medical care, psycho-social support, among others.
“Our focus is much more on children because they are more vulnerable than adults since most of them are unable to talk or do anything to sustain their life while living with disabilities” she said.

“ I will forever be grateful to DSW especially Aunt Sarah who came to my rescue at a time when I had lost hope because of the suffering I went through with my baby Jeremiah who was born with a Cerebral Pulse Problem. Aunt Sarah and the team at DSW have counseled me and loved my son in a way I cannot explain in words,” Ms. Tuheirwe said.
“There’s a time when parents used to hide their disabled children due to a lot of stigmatization that came along, but DSW has given us value, and helped us to find our place in the society,”Ms. Ninsiima said.
