Army drivers and Guards, Flouting Traffic Rules to be arrested
KAMPALA-UGANDA: The Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has ordered the arrest of army drivers and their guards, found flouting traffic rules with impunity.
The directive comes after numerous complaints from the public about the reckless driving habits of military and government officials, which have led to several accidents and near-misses on the roads.
Speaking to the Media the UPDF Deputy Spokesperson Col Deo Akiiki said the UPDF Military Police Traffic Department has bolstered the Uganda Police Force’s traffic division to provide guidance on proper road usage, following complaints to the UPDF leadership about driver indiscipline.
He added that their mission includes addressing issues with unauthorized individuals donning military attire, such as uniforms and jackets, to intimidate traffic officials.
“These impromptu checks will focus on the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) area to enhance road safety for all.” said Col Deo Akiiki.
Additionally, he said they will ensure compliance with military standard operating procedures among UPDF drivers and officers on the road.
