A motorcyclist dies on the spot in Rukungiri after colliding with a Truck along Rwenshama–Bikurungu Road.

RUKUNGIRI: The territorial police in Rukungiri are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal road crash along the Rwenshama–Bikurungu Road in Rukungiri District, which resulted in the death of one person and left another hospitalized.

The deceased has been identified as Ronald Nuwagaba, 36, a motorcyclist who was riding a red Bajaj Boxer with registration number UEY 832J a resident of Nyabusoro, Rushaka Parish, in Kanungu District.

The passenger on the motorcycle, Natukunda Amon, 28, also from Nyabusoro, Rushaka Parish, Kanungu District, was injured in the crash.

The accident occurred on Tuesday at 1:10 PM at Nyabubale Cell, Bwambara Sub-County. Nuwagaba’s motorcycle collided with a white Fuso Fighter truck, registration number UBF 062S, driven by Twijukye Rodgers, 31, from Bikurungu Town, Bikurungu Sub-County, in Rukungiri District.

According to a police statement, both the motorcyclist and the truck driver were traveling from Rwenshama toward Bikurungu Town.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, said on Tuesday evening that after navigating a slope, the motorcyclist attempted to overtake on the right and collided with the truck’s rear end.

Maate reported that the collision resulted in the motorcyclist’s death at the scene, while the passenger was taken to a health facility for treatment and that the police were notified, visited the scene, and documented the incident.

Maate said both vehicles have been impounded pending further inspection with the primary cause of the accident attributed to reckless driving by the motorcyclist.
