A K-9 Dog (Prince) apprehended its first Person in Kanungu.
KANUNGU: The recent dispatched police sniffer dog “K-9 Dog Code named Prince (Germany Shepherd)” to Kanungu has apprehended its first person allegedly for theft of a bunch of matoke.
The Suspect identified as one Tulindwamukama Salva, was arrested on Sunday after he stole matoke, and a case was opened at Kanyantorogo police post by Dismus Turyahabwa of Kanyantorogo cell.
The Kigezi Regional police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed to Journalists that the scene of crime was preserved by PC Ongomu Darius, from which together with PC Otim introduced the police sniffer dog (Prince) to the scene to pick up a scent.
Maate added that the police sniffer dog moved a distance of about 200 meter away, and led police to the suspect one Salva, who was arrested and the exhibit was accordingly recovered from his house.
He reminded people that the canine unit was just launched on last Saturday and a day after, has started to help in investigations thus urging people to utilize and benefit from this service to fight the rampant theft in the area.
“I want to urge our people to utilize and benefit from these services to fight the rampant theft of coffee, matoke and domestic animals that were always commonly reported in the district” said Elly Maate.
Maate added that the inquiries are ongoing and upon completion, the suspect will be arraigned before courts of law to answer charges accordingly with the case already registered on SD 11/26/05/2024.
