KAMPALA UGANDA: The Uganda’s Cabinet has resolved to increase the fees for the individuals changing particulars on the National Identity Card from 50,000 to 300,000 Ugandan shillings.

This was announced by the NRM Vice Chairperson Western Region and Minister of Information, Communications Technology and National Guidance Hon Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, while addressing the members of the press at Uganda Media Center in Kampala.

Also a Legislator representing people from Kinkizi East Constituency in Kanungu District Dr. Chris Baryomunsi said that the new fees will take effect after the completion of mass enrollment for new IDs and the replacement of old ones.

The Minister added that the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) realized that there are many individuals who come for service and present reasons which border on abuse or even fraud to an extent.

“There has been a fee of 50,000 Ugx for change of Particulars on the National IDs but through NIRA it has realized that there are many Ugandans or many who come for the same service, who present reasons which border on abuse or even fraud to an extent. So we have now suggested that the fee for change of Particulars be increased from 50, 000 to 300,000 shillings” said Min. Chris Baryomunsi.

The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) is set to hold the second mass enrollment as well as mass renewal of National Identification Cards, an exercise slated to start on June 1 this year up to 30th September, 2025.
