KAMPALA-UGANDA: The Ugandan Police has confirmed the arrest of the Makindye East Legislator Hon. Derrick Nyeko and other four suspects for possession of attire similar to that used by the military.

Other arrested suspects include; Katuruntu Geoffrey, Waswa Musoke Hassan, Bukenya Joseph and Biiso Marvin, who according to the police their arrest followed a daylong siege at several homesteads in Kamwokya, including an office used by the National Unity Platform.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson said that the Police initiated an intelligence-led operation, cordoning off offices, residences, shops, and other places where items reserved for security forces may be hidden.

The police spokesperson added that the suspects were found in possession of items including; Desert military shoes, Red Beret, Red NUP attires accompanied with police ranks, live PK bullet, and army Uniform like trousers, military ponchos, and khaki shirts with star peps among others.

Onyango urged individuals possessing items reserved for security forces to surrender them to local authorities, the police, District/Division Internal Security Organization (DISO), or the nearest UPDF unit,

He added that the suspects were being processed for court and that the operations will be extended to other parts of the country.

In September last year the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces, through their Defense Spokesperson, expressed concern over civilians wearing military insignia, such as berets, lanyards, and clothing, urging them to surrender such items to security authorities and cease usage.
