Hass avocado cultivation Campaign launched in Rukiga District.
RUKIGA: The Chairperson National Planning Authority Prof. Pamela Mbabazi has encouraged people in Rukiga District, to join Hass avocado cultivation Campaign in a way of boosting their household income.
Prof. Pamela was speaking to the gathering during the launch of Hass avocado cultivation Campaign, a function held today 27th April 2024 at the district headquarters.
She said that Kigezi Region with an abundance of resources has remained among the poorest regions in Uganda, emphasizing the growing of the fruit, which she believes can unlock the region’s economy.
“Kigezi as a region has remained among the poorest regions in Uganda with all these abundant resources. I want to encourage you to embrace this Hass avocado growing and this can work as a tool to unlock the region’s economy” said Prof. Pamela Mbabazi.
Prof. Pamela further pledged to support farmers by bringing experts to train them on better skills of handling Hass Avocado Farms and bridging a gap between the Farmers and the Market.
The Rukiga District LC V Chairperson Hon. Robert Mbabazi Kakwerere appreciated the government for always thinking of a Local person by bringing such initiative to uplift their Household incomes.
Robert Kakwerere added that a young district like Rukiga has gradually improved in all sectors like in Education, Road connectivity, Electricity, Agriculture and among others.
In his remarks, the Rukiga District Deputy RDC Mr. Kamusime Zadoch said that the government is committed to fighting poverty Levels in communities through its programs like Youth Livelihood program, EMYOOGA, Parish Development Model (PDM) among others.
The function was attended by a number of dignitaries including the Rukiga District Speaker Rt. Hon Akampurira Oscar, Members of the District Council, Member of the Parliament, the District Technical Staff among others.
