NDA Recovers Stolen ARV Drugs, Delivers Them to Kayunga Regional Hospital

Kayunga, Uganda – The National Drug Authority (NDA) has on Tuesday handed over 264,800 doses of Antiretroviral (ARV) drugs to Kayunga Regional Hospital.
These life-saving medications were previously impounded from individuals who had stolen them from Kamuli General Hospital in November last year.
The handover was made possible after the NDA successfully petitioned the Chief Magistrate of the Utilities Court in Makindye, requesting that the drugs be released to those in critical need.
According to Mr. Abiaz Rwamwiri, spokesperson for the NDA, the suspects responsible for the theft are currently on remand, facing charges of illegal possession of government stores and operating a pharmacy without a license.
Kayunga Regional Hospital, which has been upgraded from a district hospital to a regional referral hospital, will now be able to provide essential treatment to those affected by HIV/AIDS.
The hospital serves several districts, including Buikwe, Jinja, Kayunga, Kamuli, Luweero, Mukono, and Nakasongola.
