Kampala, Uganda – Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has sparked controversy with a threat to bring opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye back to General Court Martial.

The warning was issued via General Kainerugaba’s Twitter handle following Besigye’s numerous court appearances, where he faced various charges, including unlawful possession of firearms.

According to General Kainerugaba, Besigye would face the court-martial again if his wife, Winnie Byanyima, continues to mention President Museveni or his mother, Janet.

This development comes after Winnie Byanyima announced that her husband had ended his hunger strike. Besigye had been criticizing President Museveni and General Kainerugaba for finally bringing his charges to a civilian court.

In a separate incident, veteran journalist Andrew Mwenda diverted attention from Besigye’s detention to Winnie Byanyima’s past relationship with President Museveni during a TV show.

Mwenda also suggested that if he were in Museveni’s position, he would use evidence from audio recordings as justification for executing Besigye.

Byanyima responded to Mwenda’s comments, suggesting he wait for her upcoming book, which promises to offer insight into her brief relationship with Museveni.
