Sironko teacher arrested over defiling P.7 pupil

Police in Sironko district have arrested a 43-year-old teacher over allegations of aggravated defilement involving a 16-year-old primary seven pupil.
The suspect, Simon Epeet, a teacher at Mpogo Government-Aided Primary School in Bukhalu sub-county, was arrested on Wednesday following a complaint from the girl’s family.
According to Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Region police spokesperson, the girl had been reported missing from home for a week.
Upon her return, she reportedly revealed that she had been living with Epeet during her absence. Taitika said that when confronted, Epeet initially refused to open the door to his house, prompting the parents to call police for intervention.
He was later arrested and taken to Sironko Central Police Station, where he is being held pending investigations. Epeet is expected to face charges of aggravated defilement, a capital offence under Ugandan law.
