A Securiko Security Guard Shot as He Tries to Escape after Robbing Vendors at Gun Point in Kabale.

KABALE: A security guard attached to Securiko Uganda Limited in Kabale District is nursing bullet wounds at Kabale regional referral hospital under the police guard, after he was shot and arrested by Police allegedly for aggravated robbery of Kabele Central Market food stuff.

The suspect on Police Guard and on treatment has been identified as Andrew Muhwezi 47 a security guard and resident of Nyakahita cell, Kyanamira Sub County in Kabale district.

It’s alleged that today morning at about 02:00 Am at Kigongi “A” cell, central Division Kabale Municipality the suspect armed with a rifle non SAR UG POL 0019- 015183 loaded with five rounds of ammunitions, trespassed to Kabale central main market and robbed Vendors.

Among the affected vendors include Kyomuhangi Gloria, Natukunda Zaudia and Kyoheirwe Allen who alleges that the suspect now in police custody robbed them on gun point, their merchandise that include sweet bananas 04 Clusters, Carrots, 1basket of Oranges, 1 tin of Onions, 10kgs of fresh beans, a tray of Apples, 10 Kgs of Peas, 2 Baskets of onions all valued at 440,000/= 

The Kigezi Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate said that the Police officer PC Muhumuza George attached to Kabale police station Manning at the market saw the suspect carrying a bag sloping the steps of the market and ordered him to stop but the suspect instead speed off trying to find the exit gate to the market.

The police officer followed him and he shot a warning bullet, but still the suspect continued to run away, and after the suspect reached upstairs where there was no escape route, he removed his gun, tried to aim to shoot the officer, and the police shot him first and disabled him on the leg.

Andrew Muhwezi the suspect was thereafter arrested and later taken to Kabale regional referral hospital where he is admitted for treatment and will be removed to answer alleged charges once he recovers.

Relevant statements were obtained by a team led by the District CID officer D/SP Mukama Hakim who and his team visited and  documented the crime scene and some exhibits of merchandise that includes sweet bananas, carrots, beans, apples that were stolen were recovered, photographed and later handed over to the complainants. 

The matter was immediately reported and registered at Kabale Central police station under the file number CRB: 323/2024 and the exhibit gun of the suspect was also exhibited.
