NEWS: The Reformed Poachers and Batwa Farmers’ Cooperative Society Limited (REPABFCOS) is in advanced stage to start producing their own brand of maize flour (Obuhunga) to boost their income.

This was revealed by the Cooperative’s Chairperson Mr. Kwesiga Joab during the Reformed Poachers and Batwa Farmers’ Cooperative Society Limited a general meeting convened at Buhoma Church of Uganda on Tuesday this week.

The Chairperson said that the cooperative has achieved several milestones, including registering with the Ministry of Trade, Industries, and Cooperatives and obtaining a permanent registration certificate.

Mr. Kwesiga Joab added that Cooperatives now stand on a right track to start enhancing developmental projects like starting producing their own brand of maize flour, increasing the Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), lobbying for more funds among others.

“Our Cooperatives have achieved several milestones including being fully registered by the Ministry of Trade, Industries, and Cooperatives. The good news is that we now have our own registration certificate that shows that we are on the right track to start venturing into developmental projects” said Kwesiga Joab.

The Commercial Officer for Greater Kayonza Madam Merab, emphasized the necessity of Cooperative’s yearly meetings for accountability, credited the report given by the external auditor, and urged members to pay their debts and purchase more shares to facilitate cooperative development.

She cautioned against dividing dividends at an early point, as it could hinder the Reformed Poachers and Batwa Farmers’ Cooperative Society Limited (REPABFCOS) growth.

Before handing over the office as the Cooperative treasurer to Mugarura Nathan, the outgoing Treasurer Mr. Asiimwe Elius, reported that the cooperative is now worth 213,710,835 and expressed satisfaction with the progress made during his tenure.

The Reformed Poachers and Batwa Farmers’ Cooperative Society Limited (REPABFCOS) which is a farmer-based cooperative was established 2019 by reformed poachers and Batwa under CIBIC (Community Initiative for Biodiversity Conservation) with a mission to create a cooperative society free from poverty and hunger for its people.
