Kampala, Uganda: MPs on Parliament’s Budget Committee are questioning a request from State House for 83.033 billion shillings for presidential donations and an additional 10 billion shillings for buying new fleet of vehicles for the President.

The request was made by Alex Byarugaba, Chairperson of the Presidential Affairs Committee, who emphasized that fulfilling presidential pledges is crucial for maintaining the President’s image as a Fountain of Honor.

Byarugaba also highlighted the need for reliable transportation to facilitate the President’s movement during the electoral period, as well as to watch the Parish Development Model.

However, MPs on the Budget Committee are seeking clarification on the allocation of these funds, particularly given the significant amounts involved.

This development comes as the Electoral Commission (EC) has requested over 600 billion shillings to manage the 2026 elections.

The Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee has already approved a budget of 756.988 billion shillings for the EC to commence preparations for the elections.

As the country prepares for the upcoming elections, the allocation of funds and resources is to stay a key area of focus and debate.
