KAMPALA: President Yoweri K. Museveni has called on Africa to break free from neo-colonial influences and instead focus on harnessing natural resources for economic growth.

Speaking at the opening session of the Extra-Ordinary AU Summit on the Post Malabo Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program (CAADP) at Speke Resort Munyonyo, President Museveni highlighted on the importance of constructive dialogue and collaboration among African nations.

“Africa of begging and having no food is not the real Africa, but a neo-colonial Africa,” President Museveni noted, adding that “It is a shame! We need to guarantee that Africa breaks free from the remnants of colonial and neo-colonial influences.”

The President, accompanied by First Lady Janet Museveni, also stressed about the need for respectful engagement with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to explore mutual benefits from its abundant water resources.

He further emphasized Africa’s agricultural potential, citing enormous employment opportunities for the continent’s youth. He urged African leaders to prioritize economic liberation and self-sufficiency.
