M.O.H Set to Roll out Malaria Vaccination.
The Ministry of Health is set to roll out the Malaria vaccine in 105 districts located in 12 Regions in Uganda.
This was revealed by the Public Health Specialist Dr. Elizabeth Kaijuka during the Media engagement to update Journalists on the ongoing Big Catch up Campaign.
The campaign held under the theme “Sustaining the Vaccines and Immunization Agenda in Media Narratives” is also aimed at Commemoration of Expanded Program for Immunization and the introduction of the Malaria Vaccine into the routine immunization schedule in 2025.
Dr. Elizabeth Kaijuka said that by November 2024, 88 districts had achieved above 90% coverage for the 2nd dose of Measles-Rubella vaccine in the ongoing Campaign.
She added that the malaria vaccine is administered in 4 doses and a child receives their 1st dose at 6 months, 2nd at 7 months, 3rd at 8 months and 4th dose at 18 months.
“The Malaria vaccine works hand in hand with other Malaria prevention interventions. When combined, the burden of Malaria is reduced by 92%” Ms. Kaijuka said.
