Kisoro man arrested for killing wife over supper

Police in Kisoro district have arrested a man accused of killing his 18-year-old wife following a domestic disagreement over cooking supper.
Brian Irakiza, a resident of Gikoro village in Chihe parish, Nyakinama sub-county, is alleged to have fatally assaulted his wife, Denise Ntezimana, on Thursday evening after she declined his demand to prepare a meal.
According to John Nzabanita, Gikoro village LC I chairman, the couple had only been married for a month. He says the dispute began when Irakiza, angered by Ntezimana’s refusal to cook, turned violent, leading to a fatal confrontation.
Nzabanita described the incident as tragic and unnecessary, urging couples to resolve conflicts peacefully and seek community or family mediation. Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest of Irakiza.
He said the suspect is currently in custody at Kisoro police station, and investigations into the murder are ongoing. He described the domestic disagreement incident as minor and unfortunate that shouldn’t have led to loss of live.
