One dead, two critically injured in Namisindwa road accident

Four people have been killed and eight others seriously injured in a road crash at Corner Park in Kole District along the Lira–Kamdini highway.

The accident involved a Fuso truck, registration number UBP 253M, which was loaded with bags of beans and heading toward Lira city, and a pickup truck, registration number UAG 766L, carrying bags of rice and several passengers.

According to eyewitnesses, the crash occurred when the Fuso truck attempted to overtake the pickup but suddenly swerved to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle.

The driver reportedly braked abruptly, causing the heavily loaded truck to overturn and ram into the pickup. North Kyoga regional police spokesperson, Jimmy Patrick Okema, confirmed the fatalities, saying investigations were underway to establish the identities of the deceased.

He added that both vehicles have been towed to Kole police station pending inspection by the inspector of vehicles, describing the incident as “unfortunate.” Okema urged motorists to observe traffic rules and exercise caution while on the road, especially during overtaking and on busy highways.

The latest crash adds to a growing list of road tragedies in the Lango sub-region. Between April and June this year, police recorded 158 road accident cases in the area, 87 resulted in serious injuries, 30 caused minor injuries, and the rest were fatal.
